In the early days of Goole, this triangle of streets represented the residential centre of the new company town, with the majority of Goole's houses and shops being located here.
The township which grew up around Goole docks was the work of the Aire and Calder Navigation Trustees. From the grand river frontage of East Parade to the businesses of Aire Street and the cellar-houses of Ouse Street and George Street, these properties became home to the masses of workforce that poured into the town, many replacing a lifetime of agricultural labour to one of working in the newly established dockland.
